Knoxville area hospitals recognized among best in Tennessee

UTHospitalsU.S. News and World Report’s Best Hospitals list includes five Knoxville area  hospitals.

U.S. News and World Report evaluated nearly 5,000 hospitals — 56 of them in East Tennessee — to compile its rankings. The University of Tennessee Medical Center, Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, Parkwest Medical Center, Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center and Physicians Regional Medical Center met the standards for “strong performance.”

U.S. News and World Report also ranked the hospitals in each state. UT Medical Center ranked third in Tennessee, Methodist Medical Center and Parkwest tied for eighth, Fort Sanders was 10th and Physicians Regional tied for 11th (though for some reason U.S. News and World Report referred to Physicians Regional by its former name, Mercy Medical Center St. Mary’s). All five had at least one “high-performing specialty,” with UT Medical Center leading the pack with 11.
