Lakes & Marinas

Lakes & Marinas
Tellico Lake was formed out of the Little Tennessee River in 1979 when the Tellico Dam was completed. The lake has 357 miles of shoreline and 15,560 acres of water surface for recreational activities. Boating, fishing, skiing, and and other water sports are enjoyed during the long stretch of warm months in East Tennessee. In recent years, Tellico and Fort Loudon Lakes have been the sites for for several National Bass Tournaments. All Tellico Village neighborhoods border the lake. There are several public boat ramps, and five  marinas,  with  the central  located at  the Tellico Village Yacht  Club and

Marina. The Yacht Club has an outstanding restaurant, the Blue Heron Bar, and a Community Marina with fuel facilities.   Many social and club events are held at the Yacht Club, as well as weddings and other family gatherings.

The seasonal depth changes of Tellico Lake - Summer   and   Winter  pool  depths -  are controlled by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). The TVA guidelines are used to maintain the lake as part of a viable, safe, and productive river system.

For the truly adventuresome, there is always the prospect of cruising the Great Loop. Because Tellico Lake is not landlocked, the intrepid boater can travel up Tellico Lake into Fort Loudon Lake, pass through the Fort Loudon Lock and then motor down the Tennessee River. Farther down river the choice can be made to go north to the Mississippi River, or down the Tenn-Tom Waterway - to the Great Lakes or out to the Gulf of Mexico, respectively. So essentially, if you can get there by water, you can go anywhere in the world right from your own backyard on Tellico Lake.
